Event Recap

On May 14, 2025, the City of Portsmouth hosted another impactful ROC the Block event, this time serving the neighborhoods surrounding Tyre Neck Road, Dunkirk Street, and Arden Street. Backed by a team of 156 city departments and community volunteers, the event focused on improving infrastructure, beautifying public spaces, and addressing neighborhood maintenance needs.

Key Accomplishments:

  • Participation: A total of 156 individuals participated in the day's efforts.
  • Waste Management & Cleanup:
    • 125 bags of trash were collected.
    • 2 illegally discarded tires were removed from the area.
  • Street Maintenance:
    • 18 potholes were repaired to improve driving conditions.
  • Ditch & Drainage Maintenance:
    • Ditches were cut and cleaned along Tyre Neck Road, Dunkirk Street, and Arden Street, helping to prevent flooding and promote better water flow.
  • Parks and Recreation / Rails to Trails Maintenance:
    • Trimmed overgrown trees, removed stumps, and mowed grass along the Rails to Trails pathway to improve visibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Property Maintenace Outreach:
    • A team of inspectors conducted a property maintenance outreach to address overgrown grass/weeds, debris, and property maintenance issues.
